About Us

Kuga na Gwika's seeds were first sown in 2015 when a series of conversations about benevolence and philanthropy with Gikuyu communities were conducted across the Dallas, Texas and sponsored by Church. The discussion centered on pressing social challenges, civic engagement and giving back.
The KNG Ventures was established to support and encourage the development of “giving circles” and other collective giving models. A giving circle is a group of individuals who pool their personal time, talent, treasure, and testimony to address social issues impacting their communities using thoughtful giving strategies.
KNG is a forum for philanthropists committed to transforming their communities. We are achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We work on many exciting projects to help improve the lives of others, and are very proud of the progress we continue to make. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive change.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a national scope, KNG pursues a bold mission anchored in four main strategies.
• Demystifying institutional philanthropy for individuals and community groups.

• Cultivating a new cadre of philanthropic leaders from communities of color who recognize their civic responsibilities and their power to influence mainstream philanthropy.

• Creating space for members to learn the history of philanthropy, generate ideas, share lessons and successes and pursue opportunities to give back.

• Broadening understanding of the nonprofit sector and community-based efforts.

Our Mission

KNG's initial goal to cultivate diverse opinions to accelerate change, support creative innovation, and build valuable connections and knowledge. “Kuga na Gwika” is a Kikuyu term that was coined to describe how we as individuals, and the organization as a whole, not only TALK but ACT.

A part of this includes advocating for the giving circle model and its potential to break down barriers, and building trust and strengthening relationships between our families. Through a shared, collaborative, and collective agenda KNG went through a process to prioritize its focus areas, landing on economic opportunity/mobility, education, and leadership development. KNG has mapped out a vision to accompany grant money with volunteer time and access to the resources and skill sets of the membership
